Done by order of the church in conference July 15, 1857. J. C. Bass Mod. J. B. Dennis Church Clerk Additional Comments: Sarah Whittington was Sarah Shoemake, married to Burrell Whittington--listed on your 1850 Slave Schedule, and the mother of James Calvin Whittington--I believe he's also listed on the Slave Schedule. They moved to Pike County, AL in the early 1830's and left for Texas in 1857--hence the letter of dismissal for Sarah. The original handwritten letter in in the possession of one of Burrell and Sarah's descendants.
