"Petition for Sale of Property Willoughby Sims Pugh & Jackson Gallent Kelly petitioned the Court on Nov. 20, 1869 to sell land owned jointly by them & other heirs at law of Jesse Pugh, deceased. Part of the land was assigned as dower to Jesse's widow, Lydia Sims Pugh, & reverted to her husband's estate after her death. According to a deposition given by James Howard on Dec. 21, 1869, Mrs. Pugh, then deceased, had survived her husband by some 6 or 8 years. William Hinson also gave a deposition.=20 Heirs: (1) son Mastin B. Pugh, Butler Co., AL; (2) son Albert Pugh, Butler Co.; (3) son Ira Pugh Lowndes Co., AL; (4) son Lewis Pugh, Montgomery Co.; (5) daughter Edaline or Adaline Pugh, widow of Steve Blackman or Blackburn (appears both ways), Butler Co; (6) daughter Malinda Stinson, widow, Butler Co.; (7) heirs of daughter Elizabeth Pugh, deceased (who married her double first cousin, Ira E. Pugh); (8) heirs of son Burrell Pugh, deceased; & (9) heirs of daughter Mary Ann Wiggins, deceased, who was the wife of Kilby Wiggins. After the death of Lydia Sims Pugh, each child of Jesse Pugh, or his or her heirs, received one-ninth share of the estate, which was about $15.16. Heirs of Elizabeth Pugh, daughter of Jesse & Lydia, who married her double first cousin Ira E. Pugh: Lewis Pugh, AR; John Pugh, TX; Rebecca Walters, wife of Dawson (?) Walters, AR; Emaline Pugh, AR; Lydia Pugh, AR; & the heirs of Jesse Pugh deceased, who was a son of Elizabeth & Ira E. Pugh, viz., Elizabeth Pugh, over 21, AR, & Mary Pugh & Ira Pugh, Jr., with their mother Elizabeth Pugh in AR. Heirs of Burrell Pugh, son of Jesse & Lydia Pugh: Sarah "Sallie" Wingard, wife of Benjamin Wingard; Willoughby Pugh, one of the petitioners; Hannah Smart, widow of Henry Smart; Mariah or Maria Stephens, wife of Daniel J. Stephens or Stevens; heirs of Lydia Dendy, deceased, who was the wife of James Dendy; heirs of Wade H. Pugh, deceased; heirs of Alexander M. Pugh, deceased, & heir of Polly Underwood, deceased, who was the wife of Thomas Underwood. Heirs of Lydia Dendy were Lydia & James Dendy, who each received 94 cents from the estate of Jesse Pugh, deceased. Heirs of Wade H. Pugh were Burrell Franklin Pugh, Barbary Pugh, Hezekiah ("Kiah") Pugh, Rhoda Pugh, Joel Pugh & Jefferson Pugh, each of whom received 31 =BD cents from the estate of Jesse Pugh, deceased.=20 These minors lived with their mother, Hixey Pugh, widow of Wade H. Pugh, in Pike Co. Heirs of Alexander M. Pugh were Burrell F. Pugh, Barbary A. Pugh & M. C. Pugh, each of whom received 63 cents from the estate of Jesse Pugh, deceased. These minors lived with their mother, Caroline Pugh, widow of Alexander M. Pugh, in Montgomery Co. Heirs of Poly Underwood was her daughter, Frances M. Rushton, living with her father Thomas Underwood in Montgomery Co. Frances received about $1.90 from the estate of Jesse Pugh, deceased. Heirs of Mary Ann Wiggins, deceased, who was the wife of Kilby Wiggins & a daughter of Jesse Pugh & Lydia Sims Pugh: James E. Wiggins, Butler Co.; Mastin B. Wiggins, Butler Co.; Rhoda E. Kelley, wife of Jackson Gallent Kelley, one of the petioners, Pike Co.; Margaret Kelly, wife of Francis Kelley; & heirs of Lydia Ann Pugh, wife of Allen Lamber. The heirs of Mary Ann Wiggins' daughter Lydia Ann Lambert were John, Mary, Elizabeth, Martha, Elender, James, Margarete, Stephen Lambert & one other child, name unknown, all residing near Pollard, AL with their father. (Pollard is in Escambia County, near the Florida line). Land: E =BD of NW =BC, W =BD of NE =BC & SE of NE =BC, all Sec. 1= 4, T. 10, R. 20, 200 acres more or less. The land was sold Feb, 1870 at the courthouse to the highest bidder, Evan Lee, for $350 cash."
