Murphee, Clerk (This is now recorded on Administrator's bond-----"Journal" print ( printed out with fill in spots) like a form letter would be today. Document The State of Alabama Pike County Know all men by the presents, That we Kessiah Williams, John A. Williams, E. Y. Williams, William Lawrence, and Thomas Urquhart of the County and State aforesaid, are held and firmly bound unto Bird Fitzpatrick Judge of County Court of said County, and his successors in office, in the penal sum of nine thousand dollars; for which payment well and truly to be made and done, we bind ourselves, our Heirs, Executors and Administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents: Sealed with our seals, and dated this 27th day of July A. D. 1849 THE CONDITION OF THE ABOVE OBLIGATION IS SUCH, That whereas the above bound Kissiah Williams has been appointed Executrix of the Estate of James Williams late of said county of Pike deceased: Now, if the said Kissiah Williams shall well and truly perform all thd duties which are or may be by law requried of her as such Execuritix, then the above obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force. Taken, Appoved, and ordered to be recorded Bird Fitzpatrick, Judge James W. Dickey Seal Kesiah X Williams L. S. (made x by signed) John A. Williams L. S. E. Y. Williams L. S. Thos Urquhart L. S. (all signed) Additional Comments: Kessiah Williams, John A. Williams, E. Y. Williams, William Lawrence, Thomas Urquhart, Bird Fitzpatrick, James W. Dickey (I don't know why William Lawrence didn't sign this document?)His name was listed as present? Sometimes only three signatures were needed by the law at that time. Kesiah Williams is signing her name Kesiah Williams, they still want her to make her mark. I'm amazed a woman was allowed in this time to be an Execurtix and she even was purchasing land in her name. She is ever under the watchful eyes of the court system, sons, and son in laws. Some more records for Kesiah Williams are in LDS Settlement records of Pike Co. Al. They are very poor quality to read some are not dated, but these from the Pike County courthouse where in great shape and I'm so glad I was able to make copies, Many thanks to the dusty basement and wonderful people in Troy, Pike Co.
