SHIELDS TO CALVIN SHOEMAKER Pike County Book E, p. 237, George Shields to Calvin Shoemaker, Feb. 7, 1848 State of Alabama} County of Pike} Know all men by these presents that I, George Shields for and inconsideration of the love and affection I have and bear towards Calvin Shoemaker and for the further consideration of one dollar to me in hand paid, do hereby give grant sell and convey unto the said Calvin Shoemaker the following described property to wit; one mare about eleven years old known by the name of Cate and one Colt about ten months old known by the name of Billy also about thirty-five head of hogs-consisting principally of sows and pigs. To have and to hold unto him the said Calvin Shoemaker forever and I do covenant with the said Calvin Shoemaker that I have a good right to sell and convey the same to him the said Calvin Shoemaker & I do warrant and forever defend the right and title to him the said Calvin Shoemaker against the lawfull claims of all persons.
