ALGenWeb Archive File Manager - Carolyn Golowka October 2000 JOEL MANNING NOTE TO REUBEN ANDERSON State of Alabama County of Pike Book A p. 121 Know all men by these present that I, Joel Manning for and inconsideration that I am indebted to Reuben Anderson in the sum of two hundred dollars due by note for that amount dated on 24th day of February AD, 1834 and payable to the said Reuben Anderson on the 25th day of December 1835. Now in order to secure the payment of said note I do __by these presents bargain and sell unto the said Reuben the following tracts of land to wit: the South east fourth of the North east quarters in section ten Township eleven and range Twenty-one and the North east fourth of the South east quarter of Section three in the same Township and range situated in the said county and state in the Sparta District. To the said Reuben Anderson his heirs and assigns forever; to be said upon condition that the note above described is paid as it sales due, but if not paid then it shall be lawful for the said Reuben to enter upon the premises and there seize & sell at auction to the highest bidder after giving ten days notice of said sale by notice in the town of Monticello in the said county and applying the proceeds of such sale to the discharge of the note and expenses of said sale paying the balance if any there be to the said Manning. And the said Manning doth hereby agree and covenant to defend the said title so made on such sale against all person. Ridge The State of Alabama Pike County Personally appeared before me John D. Curtis, Clerk of the County Court of said County James P. Ridge one of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing deed who after being first duly sworn desposeth and saith that he saw the above named Joel Manning sign seal and deliver the same to the said Reuben Anderson that he the deponent subscribe his name then to as a witness in the presence of the said Manning that he saw Isaac Castleberry sign the same in the presence of the said Joel Manning and in the presence of each other on the day and year therein.
