The year of the date is very hard to read. There is almost no punctuation in the letter. I have not changed any of the spelling in it. Harmony, Ala. Dear Nephew an Neace I now seat myself to answer you most welcom letter I recived last night. It found us all well and I hope these few lines will reach you in due time and find you all well. Well Ollie I feel somewhat condemened for not writing to you oftener but I am so broke down and my eye sight has so failed until I cannot hardly see how to read or write as for myself I have not seen a well day in four years not since Bill Key cut me all to pieces and I have had pneumonia and Lagrippe and now I have a cough all the time and I don't expect to see another well day in my life and then I am broke down financially I am in debt more than I ever expect to be able to pay except there is a great change in the price of produce. I never can pay my debts with six cent cotton but I have got two mules bargained for and I think if I could get eight or ten cents a pound for cotton maybe I will be able to pay for them but everthing that a farmer dus here now ante counted nothing. Cotton worth nothing labor worth nothing. Ollie (page 2) I must tell you about my children. My oldest girl Emmar has two children a boy and a girl. My oldest boy Pury is marred to Miss Nancy Dunkin he has know children. My second oldest boy John he marred this last winter to one Miss Willie Williams they are all doing tolurebul well. My two youngest Faney and Willie is with me yet. Faney weighs 150 lbs Willie my baby weighs 120 Emmar weighs 187 your Aunt Caroline weighs 194 Emmars little girl is goin on five years old and weighs 60 lbs her little boy is name Tim. Ollif you wanted to know about your Granpap he is doing about as well as he cold expect of his age he is goin on 81 he makes from 2 to 3 bales of coton a year and 50 or 60 bushels of corn he razes meat partley to do him. His two youngest girls is with him yet Mary and Siller they live neare me I help him all I can. (page 3) Ollif you rote me your bad luck we have all got to have our share of rainey days in this life. You wanted to know about the Hataways boys Gorge has got his second wife and one child he lives with Budey Budey has got 4 children livng by his last wife Buck has 4 Buck is one of the bigest hardshell preacher we have in this cuntry He is gone ever Saturday and Sunday Laurer?? has but two children yet Mat has two nice children both girls Osker but 1 Mat weighs 164 I can say to you that Luler Key is marred She went out to Gorgia to Mary she Marred one of Rosier Shirleys boys he goes by the name of Wingat. Your Ant Lissey ses she has dun well. Ollif times is hard here people are runing politicks hevey we don't know what the ___? of it will be One of my boys is on one side and the other one the other. If Mr Tramel or Rhodey or Deat takes the New Jeffersoneon paper if you should see a peace in it with the name Assined I bete it is Pury he rites a peace to the paper ever week or two Ollif I want to see you all the worst of all people and I hope I will live to see you all if I was able I would cum to see you all Give my best wishes to Mr Tramel and tell him I wold be glad he wold rite to me odey and Sister and Deat to rite Your ant Caroline and all the children sens there love to you all she ses she rather see you than any body in the world.
