All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/al/alfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Debra Maddox Wilson JWi4194718@aol.com July 19, 2005, 9:09 am Hugh was a Private in Co 1 15th Regiment.Hugh enlisted May 11 1862 in Pike Co.He height was 5 feet 10 inches.Hair was Dark and eyes was blue.He was born in Chesterfield District,South Carolina.He was in the hospital January 30 1862 hand slight wounded.He was wounded at the Battle of Manasana August 30 1862.He was also in the hospital in Chimborazo No 4 Rivhmond,Virginia in November 28 1862.Fifteen Regiment was organized in August 1861 at Fort Mitchell,Alabama.The men was from Barbour,Russell,Dale,Henry,Macon,and Pike Counties.They moved to Tennessee and saw action at Jackson;s Valley in Trimble's Brigade.Later served under Generals Law and W.F.Perry,Army of Northern Virginia.The 15th participated in many conflicts from Seven Day's Battles to Cold Harbor,except when it was with Longstreet at Suffolk,Chickamanuga and Knoxville.It was involed in the battle of Petersburg siege and ended the war at Appomattox.The regiment lost 51 men at Cross Keys and Port Republic,152 during the Seven Day's Battles,112 at Second Manassas and 84 at Sharpsburg.More than thirty percent of the 499 engaged at Gettsburgh were disabled,and reported 112 casualties at Chickamauga and 91 during The Wilderness Campaign.When the unit surrendered they had 15 officers and 204 men.Their commenders were Colonels James Cantey,Alexander A Lowther,William C Oates and John F Treutlen;Lieutenant Colonel Isaac B Feagin ,and Major John W L Daniel. Additional Comments: Hugh was born September 11 1833 in South Carolina.His parents was Malcolm McLeod and Christine McSwain.Hugh married Lydia Elsie Green January 29 1857 in Live Oak,Pike Co;Alabama.Lydia was the daughter of Allen David Green that was born in Edgefield South Carolina and Mary Jane Rouse that was born in North Carolina.Both Hugh and Lydia parents lived in Pike Co at the time of marriage.
