All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/al/alfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Debra Maddox Wilson JWi4194718@aol.com July 20, 2005, 8:06 pm Civil War Neil enlisted as a Private in Co 1 15th Regiment March 1st 1862 in Goshen,Pike Co;Alabama.His brother Hugh also served in the same unit.He was wound and hospitize at Winchester,Richmond,Staunton Virginia,and Macon Georgia.The unit was organized in August 1861 at Fort Mitchell,with eleven companies.The men were from Barbour,Russell,Dale,Henry,Macon,and Pike Counties.They were assigned to Trimble's Brigade.They saw action at Jackson's Valley,later served under General Law and W F Perry,army of Northern Virginia.They participated in battle Seven Days,Cold Harbor,except when it was with Longstreet at Suffolk,Chickamauga, and Knoxville.It was involed in the battle of Petersburg and ended at Appomattox.The regiment lost 51 men at Cross Keys and Port Republic,152 at Seven Days',112 at Second Manassas and 84 at Sharpsburg.Its commanders were Colonels James Cantey,Alexander a Lowrther,William C Oates, and John F Treutlen;Lieutenant Colonel Isaac B Feagin;and Major John W L Daniel.Neil hair was dark and he had Red Complexion. Additional Comments: Neil was born February 20 1838 in Live Oak,Pike Co.His parents were Malcolm McLeod and Christine McSwain.He married Margaret Folmar February 6 1866 Pike Co;Alabama.Margaret parents were Isaac S Folmar and Mary Edward of Pike Co.Margaret was first married to George McCormick,he was killed during the Civil War.
