File Manager - Lygia D. Cutts SEP 1999 Anderson, run away slave - Pike Co., AL "$25 Reward I will give $25 for the apprehension (and delivery to me at Troy, or in some safe jail, so that I can get him) of my boy Anderson, about 21 years of age, nearly 6 feet high, weighing 170 lbs., very dark complected, having a small scar over one of his eyes. He will attempt to follow from this place, a woman by the name of Oxford, who has been driven off from here, and whose mulatto daughter he wants for a wife, and it is believed that she will attempt to conceal him and carry him off. Some half negroes by the names of Lucas doubtless aid said negro to escape. All good citizens will look out for the boy and keep an eye on the Oxford and Lucas gang. The boy, when taken up, may say he belongs to Gen. Wiley. Troy, Al. May 27, 1857. John Carter." (1) (1) Independent American, 27 May 1857.
