He had reached the ripe old age of four score and five years and was one of the few surviving veterans of the War of 1812. During the late years of his life, he was a Deacon of Beulah Primitive Baptist Church and in all his situations with his fellowmen he exhibited the graces of a Christian character." Note: Cornelious Smart was born about 1799 in NC and died 7 Apr 1875 in Pike Co., AL. He married Temperance Rushing. She was born about 1796 in SC and died July 1876. Temperance and Cornelius had migrated to Montgomery County and later moved to Pike County and settled on the Blind Jack Road. They joined the Beulah Primitive Baptist Church in Pike Co., AL on 6 February 1836. Cornelious was a deacon for may years and served on committees conducting church business. Both are buried in Beulah Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Pike Co., AL.
