Darby, Pioneer Citizen Dead. John R. Darby, one of the pioneer citizens of Troy, died this morning at 9:15 o'clock, after an illness of pneumonia. Mr. Darby had been in feeble health for about a year. Mr. Darby was seventy-nine years of age, having been born in Lowndes County, Alabama on March 3, 1837. He was married in Lowndes County, Alabama in 1866, after his service in the war. He married his wife she was Miss Mary Turk. To them seven children were born, being Turk Darby, who died many years ago, and the following who survive, John and James Darby, Mrs. Emma Shackelford, Mrs. James Walters, Mrs. Mose Hollis and Mrs. David Phenix. During the War Between the States, Mr. Darby was a valiant member of Troop "C" of the 43rd Alabama Cavalry. He was a member of the M. E. Church of Troy, and a good man loved by all. He had a long been identified with Troy and her history and his death will be a source of regret to innumerable friends. The funeral occurs at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning and will be conducted by Rev. C. L. McCartha, assisted by other ministers of the city.
