H. Drinkard, 84, died Friday at 3:30 p.m. after a short illness. He succumbed at the home of his son, Clarence Drinkard, on Fairview Street in Troy, Ala., Pike County. The funeral was held at the Fairview Street address on Saturday at 2:30 p.m., with the Rev. James H. Ivey officiating. The body was laid to rest in the Hopewell Cemetery near Henderson, Ala., Pike Co., with Rhodes Funeral Home in charge. Surviving are three sons, C. B. Drinkard, Troy, E. C. Drinkard, Baltimore, Md., and H. G. Drinkard, Houston, Texas. [These sons would be Clarence, Cornelius, and Horace Gilbert. A number of other children, as well, are named in censuses as being born to E. H. and his wife, Mary Ella Stinson, all of whom must have preceded him in death.] Active pallbearers were grandsons Cullen White, Clarence Drinkard, Jr., Wilson Morrison, Arthur Lackey, and Jeff White. Honorary pallbearers were C. E. Sellers, Will Peacock, E. C. Bassett, Dr. W. B. Sander, Dr. O. N. Edge, Charlie Warren, C. A. Griffin, Clem Bryan, J. L. Jordan, Cecil Powell, Clyde Whetstone, P. A. Williams, Sanders Morrison, Emory Berry, Ned Giddens, Alex Brantley, J. P. Wood, W. J. Swain, J. R. Cochran, Elmer Cardwell, Pink Cox, Glen Cox, George Borom, Shelby Lee, Pleas Nichols, Alvia Thomas, Clyde Field, Leonard Thomas, W. A. Bradley, Russell Gibson, W. A. Ogletree, W. L. Hilliard, F. M. Additional Comments: At the time of U.S. censuses 1900 through 1920 – and maybe earlier as well – Mr. Drinkard lived in the Darby’s Beat area of Pike near Henderson.
