Miss Belle, daughter of Widow Floyd, a tenant on Jeff Water’s place, had been on a visit to an older sister, Mrs. Davis, in the vicinity of Henderson, some miles west. She was returning home by buggy, accompanied by Mr. Davis. When in about 300 yards of their destination, the mule became suddenly frightened and whirled, almost overturning the buggy. This threw Mr. Davis out but he escaped with slight bruises. The animal ran and Miss Floyd attempted to jump from the vehicle, but it was to her death. She struck the ground on her head and neck was broken, and she was dead before assistance could reach her. A physician was called but his services were not needed. The young lady was about 16 years old and was of a well respected family.
