George Gumbie Jordan, 82, of Union Springs,Alabama, died at his home Wednesday 
morning, January 12, 2011. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 15, 
2011, 2 p.m., from Eastside Baptist Church with Rev. Gene Bridgman 
officiating.  Burial will follow in Perpetual Care Cemetery with Gray Funeral 
Home directing.

He is preceded in death by his parent, Barney Hill Jordan and Lizzie Mae Abney 
Jordan; brothers: Oscar Jordan, Howard Jordan, Curtis Jordan and Alter Jordan; 
sisters: Vienna Jordan Capps, Doris Jordan, Clara Bell Jordan Russell, Lila Mae 
Jordan McClendon, Voncile Jordan Rotton, Dorothy Jordan Tillery and Maggie 
Jordan Warren.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marjorie M. Jordan; children: Larry 
(Sharon) Capps of Union Springs, Jeff (Iris) Jordan of Richmond Hill, GA, 
Bernice Hordan Thompson of Union Springs and Sherry Jordan Lewis of Troy, 
Alabama; grand children: Jo (Kim) Jordan, Sam Jordan, Scott Capps, and Angie 
Lewis; great-grandchildren: Alyssa Capps, Lindsey Jordan, Meredith Jordan and 
Norah Jordan.

Pallbearers will be Jo Jordan, Sam Jorday, Brad Driggers, Randy Roten, Scott 
Capps and David Jorda.

A visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 14, 2011 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Gray 
Funerla Home.

Additional Comments:
Lizzie Mae Abney Jordan is the descendent of Capt. Nathaniel Abney, born 1729 
in Virginia and died in a duel on July 1, 1787 (Wife: Lucy Collins)and his 
father, Dr. Abraham Abney,borm 1702 in Virginia (Wife: Cassandra Meredith.
Both Capt. Nathaniel Abney and his father Dr. Abraham Abney (surgeon) served in 
the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War.
