Obit of Joseph Johnston Rushing - Pike Co. and Montgomery, AL

The following article was in the Alabama Journal on 9 Mar 1953:  "J. J. 
Rushing, 84 died in Montgomery, Alabama. Widow, Mrs. Ella Spradley Rushing; 
two daughters, Mrs. Kate Sellers and Mrs. Lewis Black; two brothers, Robert 
Rushing, San Antonio, Texas and Jack Rushing of Troy, Alabama; two sisters, 
Mrs. Mollie Howard and Mrs. J. W. Redmond of Troy, Alabama. Burial in 
Oakwood Cemetery, Troy, Alabama."

In a funeral record, written by Ella, his wife: Joseph Johnston Rushing. 
He died 12:45 AM on March 8, 1953. His residence address was 1925 West St., 
Montgomery, AL & phone # 24208. He resided in Montgomery for 10 years. He 
was not a veteran. She was 79 years old when he died. The services were 
held in McGhee Funeral Home in Troy, Alabama, on March 9, 1953, at 11:00 AM. 
The minister officiating: Rev. R. T. McLeod. Music by Authur Brown and 
Glenny McLeod. Hymn: "Does Jesus Care". Organist : Mrs Houston. Pall 
Bearers: Drue H. Lackey, Jr., Donald Fitzjerald, Pursur Powell, Ray Spradley,
Aubrey Jordan, and Devon Pippin. Honorary Pall Bearers: Doyle Wyatt, James 
Floyd, Jake Chaffin, E. M. Oliver, Byron Holland, Cody Harris J. D. 
Witherington, and Jimmie Harris.

William H. Rushing, the son of Mathew M. (Mack) Rushing & the first cousin 
of Joseph Johnston Rushing, signed Joseph's Funeral Record Book.

Ralph Roscoe Rushing, the son of Robert E. Lee Rushing & the nephew of 
Joseph Johnston Rushing, signed Joseph's Funeral Record Book.

Note: Joseph Johnston Rushing (b. 9 Oct 1868 in Pike Co., AL & d. 8 Mar 1953
in Montgomery, AL) married Ella Melissa Spradley (b. 6 Jan 1874 in Patsburg,
Crenshaw Co., AL & d. 26 Aug 1963 in Montgomery, AL) on 8 Sep 1897 in 
Ansley, Pike Co., AL. They are both buried in Oakwook Cemetery, Troy AL.
