File Manager - Lygia D. Cutts SEP 1999 Obit of James Long - Pike Co., AL "Died - On Sunday the 13th inst., at his residence in this County, James Long, in the 83rd year of his age. He was born in Fairfield and for many years lived a citizen of Sumpter District, S. C. Mr. Long took an active part in the war of 1812 with Great Britain, and distinguished himself as a soldier endearing himself to both his officers and fellow soldiers. He has been, for the last 30 years a member of the Missionary Baptist Church, holding fast his profession, and never deviated from the old paths of his religion, when the hour of his departure came, he was like unto the faithful servants of old, he was found "watching" ready for the summons, and having 'set his house in order,' he lacked nothing, and willingly passed from earth to heaven, and died only as a Christian can die, in peace with Good and all mankind."
