ALGenWeb File Manager - Carolyn Golowka ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Contributed by Ronald Bridges DEC 1999 "Mrs. Jane M. Wood died at her home 16 miles east of Troy, Pike Co., Ala. on Thursday, Feb. 1884, in the 64th year of her age. She was the daughter of James and Mariah Pinkard, of Monroe Co., Ga., and wife of Augustus E., son of Rev. John Wood, one of the pioneer Baptist preachers of Western Ga. and Eastern Alabama. Our hearts are bowed down with the deepest sorrow, yet we hope in humble submission to the will of One who rules in wisdom. She was attacked very suddenly and within three hours she had passed, "Over the river." In her sudden death, as in all things, the Lord was good, for he granted an oft-expressed wish of her life, that she might not linger in sickness nor live to be a burden in old age. She was left a widow in 1865, with a family of 8 children, 6 sons and 2 daughters, having lost one son in the army, on a short time before her husband. She lived to see all her children grown, all of whom are living, except one son who died one month before she did. She grieved most deeply for him, felling that the separation time for her Savior called her too; now they are together with loved ones gone before."
