Mrs. Kyzar was seventy-seven years old, having been born in November 1824. She was the widow of Lemuel Kyzar, who during the Civil War was captured by the Federals and imprisoned at Fort Douglas, Chicago, where later he died. She was the mother of about seven children. She joined the Methodist church many years ago, and until her death was a faithful and consistent member. She was, prior to marriage, a Miss Snider, daughter of Rev. Snider, a Methodist minister. The people who knew Mrs. Kyzar liked her well, this loving mother, good woman, and devout Christian. Many will be the sad heart over her demise, yet the life of all must some time end, and God’s faithful servants be rewarded. Additional Comments: Mrs. Kyzar’s name is spelled “Susanna” on her tombstone and is seen the same in some records, or as “Susannah.” Her father was Matthias Snider. The 1900 U.S. Census shows that she had borne eight children and that six were living at that time. (She was then living with her son David and family in the Darby’s Beat area of Pike County.) She was buried in Little Oak Cemetery near Goshen, Ala., Pike County. Available online are records of her applying for a pension on her husband’s service as a Confederate soldier, Alabama volunteers.
