On March 6, 1873, she was married to Jesse Lightfoot and for 51 years they lived happily together. She joined the Methodist Church at Little Oak under the ministry of Rev. B. L. Selman and was faithful to its teaching. Her home was the preacher’s home as long as she was able to care for them. She was of a sympathetic nature and was always ready with her good husband to help the sick and cheer those in trouble. She had been in bad health for several years but was seriously ill for eight weeks. Sunday night, August 3, 1924, God said, “It is enough. Come up higher.” The love and esteem in which she was held was evidenced on Monday afternoon by the floral offerings and the large concourse of friends that attended the services as she was tenderly laid to rest [in Little Oak Cemetery] to await the resurrection morn. She is survived by her husband, Jesse Lightfoot, one daughter, Mrs. J. I. Lightfoot, one sister, Miss Mollie Wilson, and several grandchildren. And thus it is that our friends pass on one by one, but we trust that some sweet day in a fairer clime we may be reunited to part no more. – (Miss) Ruth McPherson, Rt. 2, Goshen, Ala. Additional Comments: Censuses show Mrs. Lightfoot and family in the Darby’s Beat area near Henderson prior to being in the Little Oak community.
