A graveside service was held at 4 p.m. Mon., Aug. 16, at Old Lebanon Church, Troy, with Dr. James Nichols officiating. Mrs. Reeves is survived by three children and sons-in-law, Gayle and Butch Foster of Troy, Patricia and Bob Pike of Birmingham, and Diane Reeves of Birmingham; six grandchildren, Barrett Foster, Andrew Foster, Katherine Foster, Laura Pike, Elliot Pike, Jessica Tyre; a sister, George Y. Woodham of Troy; and a sister and brother-in-law, Pat Y. and Charles Bannet of Troy. She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Olin Reeves, and a sister, Aubrey Y. King. Memorials may be made to Victims of Violent Crimes or Carraway Cancer fund or to Phocus. Dillard Funeral Home of Troy was in charge of arrangements. Additional Comments: Mrs. Reeves was murdered in a violent attack at her home just north of the Coffee County line in Pike. She was loved by her friends and family, and all were shocked to hear of her being attacked after going out to water her plants that morning. The “Southeast Sun” of Enterprise, Ala., gave an update on the police investigation in its post of Feb. 19, 2006. According to this report, the only initial lead as to a suspect were reports of a vehicle seen parked at Mrs. Reeves’ home. Evidence was taken to help in the investigation, but it would not be until 12 years later that the killer was known for certain. Mason Alex Sims was suspected – a truck driver who had twice been convicted of felonies in Alabama, who had been given a life sentence, was allowed on work release after 12 years, and was paroled 59 days before the attack on Mrs. Reeves. (He may have driven a truck at one time for Mrs. Reeves’ husband.) Troy Police learned in late 2005 that this man had been killed in San Diego, Calif., in an 18-wheeler wreck, and they were able to get a blood sample from the autopsy performed. This matched his DNA with the evidence from Mrs. Reeves.
