He is the son of James Boatrite and Sarah P. Hunt, who moved to Alabama from Washington County, Georgia around 1844. One month shy of his 17th Birthday Robert Taylor Boatrite enlisted in the Confederate army as a private in Sept. 1864 at Troy, Alabama. His company was the Troy Guards which became part of the 62nd Alabama Regiment.
