Enlisted in McLemire's Bat. B., Hilliard's Legion (Kolbs Battery) in May 1862 and was discharged June 1865. Received a pension August 2, 1899. This is the picture of George C. Messick in his Confederate uniform. It's not real clear because it's a snapshot & made of the original picture, but you can see what he looked like. I don't know when the picture was made, but I understand that it was the only picture he ever allowed to be made of him. Also, the uniform was not his, but one the photographer provided. The white spots on the picture are where paint was dripped on it a long time ago.
