Ann was the daughter of two Black slaves Charles Smith (1818-after 1880) and Mariah Jane Carrol(1825-1874), Sol was the son of Ezekiel Hollis(1820-1886) and his slave Josephine. Sol and Ann had 12 children- Mack C. Hollis 1865-1944, John H. Hollis- 1868-1935, Josephine(Hollis) Cleveland 1871-1948, Mariah jane (Hollis)Cowart - 1874-1935, Solomon H. "Solly" Hollis jr 1876-1926,Minnie (Hollis) McCullough 1880-1978, Bethenia (Hollis) McCullough 1884-1938, Forest "Foy" Hollis Flowers 1886-1967, Allie (Hollis)Fagins 1887-1947, and Loomie (Hollis) Bush 1893-1967. Sol purchased 185 acres in 1890 and was very wealthy Negro, he is listed in the Pike county History book , published in 1953, as being a substaniel Negro who was the Blacksmith for the Paran community.
