Willis: Birth: ca.1794 North Carolina Death: May 7, 1874 Brundidge Pike County Alabama The Troy Messenger,(Troy, Alabama), May 21, 1874: "A correspondent informs us of the death of a venerable and respected citizen of this county, Mr. W. W. Willis, which occurred on the 7th inst.,at his home near Brundidge. The deceased was in his eighty-first year, and for sixty-eight years of his life he was an exemplary member of the Baptist Church. He is reported as having been a man of sterling integrity and great firmness of character, and was possessed of many qualities which tended to endear him to friends and neighbors during his life time, and which will make his memory ever revered by those who now mourn his departure from earth." Additional Comments: William W. Willis (ca. 1794 - May 7, 1874) was a veteran of the War of 1812. From Sept. 27, 1813 to March 10, 1814, William W. Willis served as a private in the Second Regiment, Capt. Henry Cox's Company with Col. James Jenkins commanding, of the Georgia Militia. In March of 1987, Todd Bradford Willis,DDS of Waco, Texas joined the General Society of the War of 1812 (General Society #4467) on the service of William W. Willis. His VA grave marker states: William W. Willis, [ca.] 1794 - 1874, Georgia Militia, War of 1812. A Veterans Administration grave marker was acquired and placed at his gravesite at Baptist Rest Cemetery in Brundidge, AL in 1984 by Dr. T. Bradford Willis of Waco, TX.
