James Whittington was born about 1821 in Johnston County, North Carolina.  He 
was the son of Solomon Whittington and Sarah Lassiter. James married Alsey 
Flowers, the daughter of Goldsbury Flowers and Edy Williamson.
James died unexpectedly sometimes around 1866.   No will is on record with 
Pike County.  A bond of $4000 is on record for Ailsey(Alsey) Whittington, J. 
C. Flowers, and Moses Wesley.  This bonds names Ailsey the administrator of 
the estate of James Whittington, deceased.  The bond is dated March 10, 
1866.   A second bond of $900 was signed by Ailsey(Alsey) Whittington, C. W. 
Hilliard, M. A. Whittenton(Whittington), B. M. Wesley, J. M. Fleming, and B. 
M. Lee.  This bond names Ailsey the "guardian for the person and property of 
Macon(Malcolm), Mary, Calvin, Caswell, Axey, and John Whittington minor heirs 
of James Whittington deceased."
