Al Wills Written: December 9, 1853 Recorded: May 9, 1854 State of Alabama County of Pike I, John Flowers of the county and state aforesaid being weak in body, but of sound and disposing mind and memory and believing from, my present afflictions and knowing the uncertainty of this frail and transitory life that I must shortly die. I therefore make, ordain and publish this to be my last will and testament. And first I direct that my body be decently buried according to the forms, rights and ceremonies of our holy religion. Adm. 1st I desire that all my just debts, funeral expenses (?) be paid as soon after my decease as possible out of the first monies that shall come into the hands of my Executors herein named. Adm. 2nd I have heretofore by deed of gift given off to each of my children certain negroes, horses, stock, monies by way of advancement which they are to have as therein specified and now dispose of the residue of my property as follows that is (?). Adm. 3rd I give, bequeath and desire to my beloved wife Nancy for and during the term of her natural life or widowhood all the rest of my property both real and personal household and kitchen furniture, farming utensils and stock of every description and she shall have (?) absolute control and keep the same together and may give off to any of my children their portion hereinafter specified. When they marry or arrive at the age of maturity or twenty-one, or she may dispose of or give to any of them at any time she thinks proper according to the manner in which I have desired the same hereinafter expressed. Adm. 4th I give and bequeath at my wife’s death or her marriage all the Real Estate which I now have amounting to Six hundred and Eighty acres, more or less to William Willis, Luke Isom, and Silas Wright Flowers over and above the rest gave heretofore received monies and pay (?) two hundred dollars each, which makes tem equal except John C. and A.F. Flowers who are to have each one hundred dollars out of my estate. Adm. 5 I now give and bequeath at my wife’s death or marriage as specified in Article or Adm. (?) the balance of my Negro property as follows To John C. Flowers (?) Negro Girl Charlotte about sixteen years of age. To A.F. Flowers a Negro Girl Mary about fifteen years of age. And to both of them I give and bequeath, to them the said John C. and A.F., the boy Abram which they are to divide equally between themselves or one shall buy the others art give or take. To Kiziah, wife of Daniel H. Horn three Negroes Stepney, Peggy, and Dempsey. To Marilda Ann Horn, wife of Oliver Horn Alfred a Negro boy say about 21 years of age. To Lucretia, wife of Anguish McLeod the boy Frank and I give to both of them the said, Marilda and Lucretia, a Negro Girl Hannah about 25 or 30 years of age to be equally divided between them according to equity and justice as above. To William Willis Flowers I give Elsey and Caroline Elsey about 30 and Caroline four or five years of age. To Luke I Flowers Kitty about 22 years of age. To Silas W. Flowers Ben, Silla(?) and Sarah. To Mary Jane Flowers the boy Arch about 4 or 5 years old. To Helen E. Flowers the boy Owen_and to both of them, Mary Jane and Helen, the boy Adam to be equally divided between them according to justice and as they may agree. Adm. 6th The residue of my property in the hands of my Executors, monies on hand, goods and chattels rights and credits household and kitchen furniture, Plantation and farming utensils stock of every description and everything left at my wife’s death to be sold and appropriation to the schooling and maintenance and education of my youngest children William Willis, Helen E., Luke I., Silas W., and Mary Ann Flowers or if any left then to be equally divided among the last mentioned five children. Adm. 7th and lastly I hereby make, constitute and appoint my sons, John C. and Alexander F. Flowers my lawful Executors to this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me heretofore made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affected my seal, this 9th day of December AD 1853 and 78th year of American Independence.
