Realizing the uncertainty of human life, I William Lawrence of Briar Hill in the County of Pike and the State of Alabama make this my last will and testament. While in possession of sound mind and memory this the 26th day of December 1881, I give, bequeath and divide unto my dear wife Sarah F. Lawrence all of my real estate consisting as follows; four hundred acres of land where I now live near Briar Hill and three hundred acres in Montgomery County known as the Ozier and Flinn places with all personal property there unto attached of which I may die possessed of or be entitled to, to have, to hold and for the benefit of my minor heirs as follows; Reuben O., Martha Jane, Minnie and Mary Lawrence during their minority only either of them should leave home or marry before attaining majority, so long as she shall remain my widow or as long as she live without marrying. I further will that at death or marriage of my wife Sarah F. Lawrence, that the Ozier and Flinn lands above described shall be equally divided between Reuben O., Martha Jane, Minnie and Mary Lawrence or in the case of death of either, then to the survivors. Except three hundred ($300.00) dollars or equivalent of said land shall be set aside for the support of _____________________ the above mentioned heirs. I further will and desire that my lands above described lying near Briar Hill with all personal property belonging to my estate at the death or marriage of my wife Sarah F. Lawrence to be equally divided between all of my legal heirs to wit; Louisa Huffham, E. Y. Lawrence, Washington Lawrence, W. Frank Lawrence, Elkana Lawrence, Jefferson D. Lawrence, Reuben O. Lawrence, Martha Jane Lawrence, Minnie Lawrence, Mary Lawrence, Elizabeth Rylander and the heirs of Sarah Buran and John Lawrence each of the above mentioned thirteen heirs am every one to sharing alike. And I do further appoint my wife Sarah Lawrence executrix and E.Y. Lawrence and Eddie F. Mitchell coexecutors with her all without making and executing any bond or security except in the event of death or marriage of my wife Sarah F. Lawrence then the said E. Y. Lawrence and E. F. Mitchell to enter into bond with good and sufficient security and carry out this my last will and testament. Given under my hand and seal the day and the date above written. His children by this marriage that are listed as heirs were Reuben O., Martha Jane, Minnie and Mary Lawrence. William Lawrence's 1st wife was Julia M. Lawrence (daughter of James and Kesiah Williams). All others listed as his legal heirs were children by this 1st marriage. William and Sarah F. Lawrence are buried at the Carter Cemetery, Briar Hill, Pike County. William Lawrence is listed as being the son of Stephen Lawrence of Lowndes (present day Crenshaw) County, AL as described in Lowndes County Will Book B, page 269.
