Girardi ==================================================================== August 2000 Many thanks to Dianne Herren, Randolph County Historian and surveyor of the following cemeteries. On August 27, 2000 she gave her permission for their submission to the archives. HARGETT CEMETERY Township 20, Range 10, Section 24 Township 20, Range 11, Section 19 This cemetery was destroyed when Randolph County Highway #1 was built with the creation of Lake Wedowee. The road crew was not aware that there was a cemetery until the stone from the one marked grave was seen in the dirt being scraped away during the construction. The stone was placed on the side of the highway at what the workers thoughts would be the location on the cemetery. Several people have helped me to try to locate this stone, but we have been unable to locate it. We can only assume that it must have been removed by someone as we can find no sign of it anywhere along Highway #1 in the area near the location of this cemetery. An earlier survey of this cemetery shows the one marked grave as shown below and (18) unmarked graves. Hargett, Herschel Dec. 15, 1885 July, 1888 Eighteen (18) unmarked graves Data was compiled and site was visited on March 7, 1993.
