Girardi ==================================================================== December 2001 HEARN GRAVE Randolph County, Alabama Information received from Dianne Herren, Randolph County, Alabama historian. Submitted by Marilyn M. Girardi MMGir@aol.com One (1) unmarked grave of Mrs. Asa Hearn The grave is located near a tree stump in the row of large trees between the West Broad Street Church of Christ and the Wedowee Methodist Church. Mrs. Hearn was bitten by a poisonous snake while they were clearing the lot and building the church. She died as a result of the bite and was buried in what was meant to be the Baptist Church Cemetery. When the Baptist Church originally bought this property, they bought the whole lot, meaning to establish their own cemetery there with the church. The Church of Christ bought this property from the Baptist Church when they built a big new church just outside of town. In the meantime, Archibald Sawyer gave the Masonic Lodge the land to start the Wedowee Masonic Cemetery (the current Wedowee Cemetery). The Baptist church then decided that they would join in with the Masonic Cemetery and not start a cemetery there with the church, but Mrs. Hearn's grave was never moved. [Dianne notes that Asa Hearn might possibly be found in the book on "Historical Records" and if anything is found, an update on this grave will be made.] ******
