On August 27, 2000 she gave her permission for their submission to the archives. McCORMICK FAMILY CEMETERY Township 20, Range 10, Section 7 For years the McCormick Family Cemetery rested near New Harmony Christian Church in Section 7 of Township 20, Range 10 in Randolph County, Alabama. However, when they were building Lake Harris Dam in the 1970's they were afraid that this cemetery could possibly be covered by the backwaters of the dam. Thus, the officials of Alabama Power Company decided that it would be best to move the eleven (11) unmarked graves in the McCormick Family Cemetery. Alabama Power Company asked for bids on the project of moving this cemetery and the contract was awarded to Brock Funeral Home of Ashland, Alabama. These eleven graves were moved to the LinevilleCity Cemetery in Clay County, Alabama on August 4, 1977. These eleven graves now rest in a family plot in the Lineville City Cemetery where they are marked as James E. McCormick, wife Eliza Ann McCormick, son Robert McCormick (died in his late teens or early twenties), and eight infants. 1850 Census of Randolph County, Alabama shows: Beat #13 South: Household #9: James McCormick Age 25 Farmer Born in TN Eliza McCormick Age 21 Born in GA John W. McCormick Age 2/12 Born in AL (Census shows them married within the year.) 1860 Census of Randolph County, Alabama shows: Lineville: Household #1133: James McCormic Age 33 Farmer Born in TN Eliza McCormic Age 30 Born in GA John W. McCormic Age 10 Born in AL Narcissa C. McCormic Age 7 (Female) Born in AL Robert W. McCormic Age 5 Born in AL Martha L. E. McCormic Age 3 Born in AL Eliza McCormic Age 5/12 Born in AL I cannot begin to date any of the other deaths, but if Robert died about the age of 20, he would have died about 1875 as he was shown as 5 years old in the 1860 Census. Thus, we know that this family cemetery had rested in its earlier location since sometimes in the 1870's, possibly earlier.
