Feb 09, 1858 Mar 28, 1934 [Son of W.H. Wood] Wood, Mrs. M.E. Mar 07, 1888 Mar 04, 1932 [D/o George R. Hester and Sara Dixon] Four Unmarked Graves Information from Mr. Truman Waters: At age five, Truman remembers visiting the Pauper Farm where his grandparents, who were the caretakers, managed to feed the paupers on $400.00 per year. He remembers seeing the horrible conditions the residents had to live in, especially a two-room shack with an ex-slave living in one room and a blind, black man named Lewis Askew living in the other. Askew’s wife was buried in the Pauper Farms Cemetery on the property, and he would feel his way to her grave, locating it by a broken lamp he had placed on her grave. The other residents would move the lamp to trick Askew into clearing off the other graves. 1910 Alabama Census Randolph County Precinct 6 #120 Young, William A., head, male, white, 60, married, 35 yrs, born Ala, Pauper farm Nancy R., wife, female, white, 56, married 35 yrs, 11 children born 5 living, born Ga.
