The Rock Stand Congregational Christain Church was organized on July 26, 1908, by Rev. J.D. Dollar, J.H. Hughes, J.N. Kirby and M.B. Kirby. It was a one room building with a fireplace. The land for the cemetery was donated by Churchill Allen. Mattie Pearl Allen was also the first person buried in the cemetery. The New Rock Stand Congregational Christain Church was dedicated Sunday, October 25. 1953, the building committee was composed of Wallace Roberts, chairman, Jadie Kirby, Junior Kirby, J. T. Adcock, and Miss Lillian Adcock. When work on the new church was begun in May of 1953, no one dreamed that the building would be completed and paid for by the fourth Sunday in October. Through donations of labor, materials, and equipment, the membership was able to obtain a building and equipment valued at $12,000 for a oath outlay of only $6,000. A few early pastors of the church through the years: J.D. Dollar, J.H. Hughes, Carl Dollar, G.D. Hunt, M.L. Thrasher, Olin Sheppard and Wallace Roberts. The Rock Stand School was organized around 1895 near the home of Mr. F.A. Allen. In 1903 the school building was moved to another location near where the church is today. In December 1919 the schoolhouse at Rock Stand was destroyed by fire, the burning was a mystery. It is thought that possibly someone had been spending the night in the building and had set it on fire it either for mischief or by accident. In 1920 the new Rock Stand school building was located on one of the highest points in this part of the county on the Roanoke-Wedowee graded road, five miles from Roanoke. The building was two-story and painted. In 1929 the Rock Stand school was destroyed by fire again, with all its contents. Another school building was constructed in 1930 with Casper Beverly in charge of the project. A few of the early teachers and Rock Stand School through the years: Mr. King Owen, Miss Josie Clark, Miss Essie Sharp, T.C. Harris, Miss Velma Wright, Joe Robertson, Ruth Suddeth and Myrtle Pinkard.
