We, your Committee on Temperance, make the following report: We very often see Baptists intoxicated with strong drink, and as this evil is abroad in the land, we ask the brethren of the different Churches to pray that this evil may be subdued, and not only this one, but we are taught in the Word of God to be temperate in all things. Respectfully submitted. J. T. KAYLOR, Chairman. ______ REPORT ON FINANCE. We, your Committee on Finance, make the following report: Received for minutes. . . . . . . . . . . .$22 05 “ “ Home missions. . . . . . . .1 75 “ “ Foreign missions. . . . . . 5 55 “ “ Missions undirected. . .44 75 Collection at Association for Domestic and other missions. . . . . . . 34 15 Total. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .$108 25 R. WILLOUGHBY, C. A. PRESCOTT, J. T. KAYLOR, Committee. ______ REPORT ON MISSIONS. We, your Committee on Missions, beg leave to make the following report to-wit: 1. We find that the cause of missions is gaining ground; that, whereas, a century ago there were only a few missionaries on the field, including our own beloved CAREY and JUDSON, there are now several thousand, and yet there is room. It is encouraging to note that while Baptists have 76 per cent less missionaries than all other denominations, they excel others by 31. 2. We are sorry to note that some of our missionaries in China and Cuba are receiving very cruel treatment, but we must remember our Savior said “if they have persecuted me they will persecute you also.” 3. We are proud to note that the general tendency of our churches is more liberality in the spreading of the gospel, especially are we proud to note that our pastors are receiving a better compensation for their services. 4. While the above is all true, it makes our hearts burn within us when we contemplate the sad fact that some of our churches are doing comparatively nothing, either in the support of their own pastors or to the spreading of the gospel in other parts. 5. While it is a sad fact that some of our churches are anti-missionaries, it is sadder still that some of our preachers are either anti-missionaries or omissionaries. 6. We, your committee, would recommend that our pastors preach more on the subject of missions, and thereby either set the drones to work or sting them out of the hive. All of the above we humbly submit for your consideration. Thos. J. LOVVORN, L. KING, Committee. ______ REPORT ON SABBATH SCHOOLS. We, your Committee on Sabbath Schools, make the following report: We are sorry that so much is said and so little done; that it makes our heart and mind wonder if a report is necessary; but we urge that this body urge every Church in its bounds to have a Sabbath School. Respectfully submitted. R. H. HIX, Chairman. ______ REPORT ON READING THE BIBLE. It is useless for me to say that I do not feel competent to write on the subject of Reading the Bible. It is indeed the Book of Books. Of all the books of the world, the Bible is the most wonderful. When we take it up we find not one book only, but sixty-six different books, written by about thirty-six different authors, during a space of about three or four thousand years. We find not one subject only, but a number of subjects of the greatest importance to man. We find too that all these authors, writing at different times, agree even upon the most difficult subjects. We find some of them telling of events which would occur thousands of years after they had been laid away. We find them all condemning sin in every form and urging upon man the importance of truth and righteousness. Therefore, we should read the Bible more carefully and prayerfully, for it carries sunshine wherever it goes. Respectfully submitted. A. P. KEY, Chairman. ______ REPORT ON PUBLICATIONS. We, your committee, make the following report: We recommend [reading] the Alabama Baptist, in connection with the Bible and the Colporteurs. Respectfully submitted. D. B. HICKS, Chairman. ______ REPORT ON DECEASED MINISTERS. We, the Committee on Deceased Ministers, make the following report: Whereas, God has seen fit to spare the lives of all the ministers of this Association; we, therefore, recommend that the regular order of business be suspended and that prayer and thanks be offered unto God for His goodness, and ask a continuation of the same. Respectfully submitted. T. G. BROOKS, A. J. CHEAVES, Committee. The above was adopted and prayer was offered by J. M. HIX. ______ ORDAINED MINISTERS AND THEIR ADDRESSES. T. A. CAMP, Wedowee, Ala.; C.
