Old Cedron Baptist Church was organized in around 1836 no record of members or pastors can be located. The Blake family was very possibly one of the foundering members of this church. By the 1840's The church joined the Tallassahatchie Baptist Association along with Hepizbah [now Cleburne County] Bethel [Delta, Clay County] and Pinetucky [now Cleburne County]. At the beginning of Civil War, the place of enlistment for of a few of the soldiers was Cedron church or Cedron school. It is not known when Cedron church became a Primitive Baptist church. In 1876 the Cedron Primitive Baptist church had joined the Cane Creek Primitive Baptist Association with 50 members. By 1899 Cedron church was still listed as a member of the Cane Creek Primitive Baptist Association. One of the pastors at the church was Rev. Joel Thomas Morrison. Some of the surnames of early members were: Ayres Blake Braden Creed Harris Holmes Kidd Kirkland Knight McKenzie Morrison Smith Thrasher Waters Watson White It looks like as Cedron Primitive Baptist church began to fade away, Valley Grove Primitive Baptist church came to be. Many of the members of Cedron church moved their letters to Valley Grove Primitive Baptist church. Many of the members of Cedron Primitive Baptist church are buried in the Blake Family Cemetery just over the Cleburne County line, the Waters Family Cemetery, the Key Family Cemetery and Valley Grove Primitive Baptist Church cemetery. The Waters Family Cemetery may have been the Old Cedron Primitive Baptist cemetery. The Cedron church/school was one of the first in the area. The seats were split logs supported by peg legs. An open fireplace. A. door was on opposite sides near the middle of the building. In 1888 a one room frame building was erected for the school. In 1893 the church/school hosted a mass Educational meeting. Some of the surnames of the children that attended Cedron school were: Ayres Green Haynes Key Kidd Knight Morrison Thrasher Waters White ******************************************************************************** Cool Springs Primitive Baptist Church In 1876 B.A. Wade and J.F. Mathews served as delegates for the church. Cool Springs church was member of the Cane Creek Primitive Baptist Association. By 1899 the church was still an active member of the Cane Creek Primitive Baptist Association. ******************************************************************************** Hopewell Primitive Baptist Church In 1873 Hopewell Primitive Baptist church was a member Hillabee Baptist Primitive Baptist Association. J.T. White, J.D. White and J.A. Mccreless served as delegates for the church in 1873. By 1876 Hopewell church was a member of the Cane Creek Primitive Baptist Association. A. [Austin?] Nix and W. Bartlett served as delegates for the church of 33 members. By 1899 the church was still an active member of the Cane Creek Primitive Baptist Association. ******************************************************************************** Liberty Primitive Baptist Church Joseph M. Bell and Moses Rice served as delegates for the church of 12 members in 1876. Liberty church Primitive Baptist was a member of the Cane Creek Primitive Baptist Association in 1876. By 1899 the church was still an active member of the Cane Creek Primitive Baptist Association. ******************************************************************************** Valley Grove Primitive Baptist Church Township 18, Range 10, Section 36 359 County Road 329, Foster's Crossroads Randolph County, Alabama On Apr 16, 1870, Thomas N. Lipham was ordained as a Primitive Baptist minister. In 1876 T.N. Lipham served as a delegate for Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church Delta Clay County AL. In the late 1870's Rev. Thomas N. Lipham organized the first meeting of Valley Grove Primitive Baptist Church. The meeting was held in a Bush Arbor. Mr. James F. Halpin gave the land the church is on. Mr. Charlie Bailey gave the land for the cemetery. Mr. David Haynes & Mr. Joseph B. Lipham helped built the church. The church building has always been the current location. In 1899 Valley Grove Primitive Baptist church was a member of the Cane Creek Primitive Baptist Association. The first person buried in the cemetery is said to have been Leola Kidd, she was the daughter Wm Kidd & Elizabeth White-Kidd. Many of the members of Cedron Primitive Baptist church moved their letters to Valley Grove Primitive Baptist church. Mrs. Minda Stewart Haynes was the last living member. Mrs. Haynes died in 1959. The Homecoming/Memorial Day/Decoration is still held on the first Sunday in May. There are still a few families that have their reunions at Valley Grove.
