It affords me in so small degree of pleasure to have it in my power to drop you a line, informing you that since the appointment by the Marion Brord of that venerable Minister, William Davis as Missionary for this destitute county, that his labors have been much blessed. He preaches to many living in situations where they were almost holly destitute of the gospel; he seems everywhere to be gladly received by the people, and has entered on his work with unbounded zeal, and with the best appearances of success, The meetings he had with us in the woods, and four miles north of this, have been accompanied with considerable manifestations of the divine influence. At other places wo know he has given religious instruction and supplied the ordinances of divine worship, which were before but occasionally visited or destitute of the ministry. May the fruits of his meetings be extensively witnessed. May sinners be awakened and born again and may the work of grace be deepened in the believer's hearts, is the prayer of the writer. I remain, dear brethren, yours in the hope of eternal life. P. P. S. Since writing the above, Bro. Davis had a protracted meeting at this place which was of six days continuance; during the meeting he constituted a Church which has been named Antioch. He was favored with the assistance of' brethren J. C. Beverly, W. M. Wilson and H. J. Sears, who preached the word with great power and zeal. During the meeting the whole congregation appeared deeply interested, solemnity sat on every countenance. The minds of some of the unrenewed seemed to be seized with the keenest conviction, and when the invitation was extended to all who desired prayer, the whole congregation came forward and kneeled around. The souls of the almost exhausted ministers were filled with gratitude, while their trembling voices pronounced accents of praise to their Heavenly Master. At the close, a few persons were baptized, and at the next meeting others are looked for. Surely "it is the Lord's doing and it is Marvelous in our eyes" P.
