CHURCH ORGANIZED
Band of Worshippers Formally Constituted under Name of Christian Church in 
Roanoke by Evangelist Spiegel.

   Last Thursday afternoon a new church organization was launched in Roanoke.  
For several years resident members of the Christian church in Roanoke have 
maintained a Sunday school, of which R. E. Taylor is the superintendent.  Not 
until the past year or so, however, have these people owned any church property 
in town.  They finally purchased the old Baptist church and have recently 
repaired it very neatly outside and inside.
   On the 16th inst. a meeting was begun at this church, and later in the week 
Rev. S. P. Spiegel, state evangelist, arrived and did the preaching from that 
time forward.  On the afternoon of the 25th the formal organization of the 
church was entered into.  Evangelist Spiegel made an address appropriate to the 
occasion, after which the names of 29 charter members were enrolled.  The 
congregation then elected as elders Messrs. Milligan Earnest and W. M. Holder 
and as deacons Messrs. J. M. Pittman, R. E. Taylor, and C. H. Colwell.  It is 
expected that arrangements for a regular pastor will be made later in the year.
   The protracted services were continued until Sunday night, and were attended 
by large and interested congregations.  Mr. Spiegel is a gifted speaker, and is 
thoroughly equipped for his work.  He had the faithful assistance throughout of 
Rev. Belt White, of Anniston.
