All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/al/alfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Jacqueline Wilkerson jgwilkerson@embarqmail.com September 11, 2009, 12:32 am Written: September 3, 1859 Recorded: July 25, 1860 Orange County North Carolina Deed Book 51, Page 195, 196 Mary J & William Redding etal to Samuel W Hughes Taylor ) This Indenture made an entered into this the third day of September & Others ) eighteen hundred and fifty nine between Elizabeth Taylor widow of To ) Thomas Taylor (decd) Nancy Taylor Sam Taylor William W Taylor (for Hughes ) himself and for Robert Smith and wife Ellen of Alabama) Sarah Tinnin William Redding & wife Jennet & Nelson P Hall and wife Caroline of the one part & Samuel W Hughes of the other part all of the County of Orange & state of North Carolina (except Robert Smith & wife of Alabama) Witness that the said Legatees for and in consideration of the sum of Six hundred and twenty Seven dollars and fifty cents to them in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath given granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth give grant bargain and sell unto the said S W Hughes a certain tract of land lying in the said County of Orange on the Eno River adjoining the lands of Stephen Taylor Solomon Thompson & Samuel W Hughes Beginning at a stake & pointers on the West bank of Eno the old corner running thence West Thirty chains & seventy five links to a stake Stephen Taylor’s corner thence South Twenty Seven chains and seventy five links to a pointer on Samuel W Hughes line thence East with his line Twelve chains to a small persimmon on the bank of said Eno thence up the same with the meanders to the first station Containing fifty acres more or less We bind ourselves our heirs Executors admin istrators and assigns for ever each of us jointly and severally to warrant forever the right and title of said land and premises unto the said Samuel W Hughes his heirs and assigns forever against us our heirs executors administrators and assigns forever In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals this the 3d day of September AD. 1859 Test Elizabeth Taylor (seal) Solomon Thompson ) Nelson P. H Hughes ) Nancy Taylor (seal) Jane Taylor (seal) Wm W Taylor (seal) and Wm W Taylor agent for R H Smith & wife Ellen (seal) William Redding (seal) Sarah Tinnin (seal) Martha C Hall (seal) R H Smith (seal) Ellen Smith (seal) Mary J Redding (seal) State of North Carolina ) Orange County ) This the 12th day of Sep tember 1859 personally appeared before me John M Dick one of the Judges of the Superior Court of Law for the state aforesaid the above named Nelson P Hall and wife Caroline and acknowledged the due execution of the foregoing deed and thereupon the said Caroline Hall being by me privately exam ined separate and apart from her said husband touching her consent to the execution of said deed she declared that she had executed the same freely of her own accord and without any force fear or undue influence of her said husband or any other person and did still voluntarily assent thereto Therefore let the said deed with this certificate be registered Jno. M. Dick J.S.C.L. State of North Carolina ) Orange County ) This the day of Sept. 1859 personally appeared before me John M Dick Judge of the Superior Court of Law for the state aforesaid the above named William Redding & wife Mary J and acknowledged the due execution of the foregoing deed and thereupon the said Mary J being by me privately ex- amined separate and apart from her said husband touching her free consent to said deed declared she executed the same freely of her own accord without fear force or undue influence from her husband or any other person and did still voluntarily assent thereto. Therefore let the said deed with this certificate be registered. Jno. M. Dick J.S.C.L.E. State of North Carolina ) Before me the subscribed Judge of the Supreme Court for the state aforesaid R H Smith & Ellen his wife parties of the first part to the foregoing deed of bargain and sale and acknowledged the same in due form of law to be their act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned And the said Ellen being privately examined by me separate and apart from her said husband declared she executed said deed freely and of her own accord without the fear or compulsion of her said husband And that she doth still voluntarily assent thereto at Hillsboro this 25th July A D 1860 Therefore let the said deed & this certificate be registered M.
