Richardson of Kent, Culberson County, Texas, mentions Robert McCarley and his wife Jane Richardson McCarley. The McCarleys moved to Randolph County, Alabama, between 1860 and 1870 and raised a family there. My great-grandfather, Elias M. Richardson, was listed in the household of Robert McCarley in the 1870 Federal Census for Randolph Co., Alabama. Transcribed from the original in the possession of Adlai Robbins Yates. ------- Kent Texas, Aug 2, 1934 Dear Rob [probably Adlai Robbins Yates] In reference to E. C. Patty of Macon, Miss, will say that his grandfather, John William Patty, was a half- brother to my mother. Her only brother was named Jesse Patty. Her half brothers were: John William, Zerubabel, Charles, and Eli. I never knew any of my mother’s half sisters, neither did I know any of her own sisters. So far as I know they all remained back in S.C. and Ga. while the brothers moved to Alabama and Miss. I think I wrote you in my last letter in regard to brothers and half brothers of mother. One of the cousins I spoke about in my last letter of my father was Wesly Richardson, who moved to Ill. From Ala in 1858. Wesly Richardson also had a brother John who moved from Georgia at the same time with Wesly. I never knew anything about their father or any other members of their family. The lady cousin of my father I do not remember anything about only that she told me that her father and my grandfather were brothers. I never knew but two of my father’s sisters. One of them married Calvin Yates, a son of Joel Yates, and the other married Robert McCarley. We are awaiting anxiously your promised visit. Hope it will not be delayed long. We are having no rain, and it is very, very hot. This is a stock country, and if we can get rain any time this month the stock will be alright. I have filled out the blanks as best I could. Hope it will not be labor in vain. As ever, Your Uncle Jim (signed) J. J. Richardson, Kent, Texas P. S. I think all the Yates’ that I mentioned were the children of Joel Yates, unless it was the wife of Thomas Richardson. I am not sure about her. Amos and Thomas were twins. J. J. R.
