L. Blake among some of his old family papers. It was an official Randolph County paper dated April 25, 1836, establishing the right to a Mr. Triplett to establish and keep a public ferry on the Tallapoosa River at the old country site of Randolph and authorized the following fees: for each wagon, .75; for every two-horse four wheel carriage, .50; for one horse wagon or one cart, .37 1/2 for each chem and horse, .12 1/2; for each foot man, six and a quarter cents. It was signed by Jefferson Falkner, register, Randolph County. This ferry was later bought by Mr. Blake's grandfather and is still known by Blake's Ferry. Additional Comments: History of Randolph County: Richard Young owned and lived at that time at Triplett’s Ferry. Triplett sold out after the county seat was moved to Wedowee. Richard Young was a good clever man and citizen and was a brother of Ike Young. The Legislature changed the term of office from an annual to a bi-annual. He was re-elected in 1840 and died in the latter part of 1844. Thomas Blake was appointed administrator and at the sale bought the homestead and ferry. His son John Blake owned it until his death. [Note: Richard Young was Thomas Blake's brother-in- law] There is a story that Richard Young wanted to be buried on his own land, if so, this grave is lost or underwater now. It is also possible he may have been one of the first graves in Sweetwater cemetery.
