Center West School
Township 18, Range 10, Section 19
Delta Randolph County Alabama

Center West school was organized about the year 1886. It later moved across the 
county line to Clay County, and then back to Randolph County around 1903. 
The first schoolhouse was a one-room building with a fireplace in each end. In 
around the year of 1904 wood heaters were added. In 1925 a new school building 
was erected. Box Suppers, singings and cake sales were held to raise money for 
the school fund. 
The first teacher after the school moved back to Randolph County was Walter 
Shaddix. An earlier teacher was Lycurgus Preston who enrolled 120 pupils in one 
year. He taught six years at Center West. D.C. Holmes and Clarence Clifton were 
other teachers during the one-room period. In around 1916-1917 another room was 
added.

In 1920 Center West school basketball team beat Wesley's Chapel school 9 to 3.
