In regards to Mrs. Lucinda Strickland widow of Thomas Strickland of Co E, 1st Ala Cav. Thomas Strickland left this Cavalry in the fall of 1865. General Affidavit State of Alabama County of Randolph In the matter of Pension class #458007 of Lucinda Strickland widow of Thomas Strickland Co E, 1st Ala Cav. On this 1st March A.D. 1893 personally appeared before me Judge of Probate in and for the aforesaid County duly authorized oaths John T. Clifton aged 60 years a resident of near Talbert in the County of Randolph and the state of Alabama. Henry F. Mitchell aged 66 years resident of near Talbert in the County of Randolph and the state of Alabama. Well known to be reputable and entitled to credit and who being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows: That they have known the claimant since 1852 and her late husband Thomas Strickland from 1852 to 1866. They both state that claimant’s husband in latter part of 1866 took his team and went to Atlanta GA to haul and never came back again. Henry F. Mitchell states that back in 1867 he worked with Thomas Strickland and he last saw Thomas Strickland he told afficant that he was coming back in the fall of 1867. John T. Clifton states that in Oct-1867 he got a letter from Thomas Strickland...he got his letter from the dead letter office in Washington DC. Clifton states that this said Thomas Strickland wrote him he will soon be at home, and they both stated that they have been informed that just after he last wrote a crown of men were hunting Thomas Strickland and he has not been heard from since... Weathers Judge of Probate General Affidavit State of Alabama County of Randolph In the matter of pension claim 458007 of Lucinda Strickland 1893 personally appeared before me the Justice of the Peace of aforesaid County and State Lucinda Strickland aged -years a resident of near Talbot in the County of Randolph and State of Alabama whose Post Office address is Talbot or Wedowee old. . Well known to be reputable and entitled to credit and who being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows: That she is Lucinda Strickland who filled this above noted claim as the widow of Thomas Strickland late of Co E, 1st Ala Cav. Vol. Nov 1861. She states that her late husband Thomas Strickland left home about one year before he was killed. He took his team and went off to haul to make some money. The county was all torn-up and since he had been in the Union Army he went off to make some money and she is therefore unable to prove the date of his death... Lucinda Strickland Her X Mark J.L. On this 1st Apr A.D. 1893 personally appeared before me Justice of the Peace in and for the aforesaid County duly authorized oaths John T. Clifton aged 60 years a resident of near Talbert in the County of Randolph and the state of Alabama. Henry F. Mitchell aged 66 years resident of near Talbert in the County of Randolph and the state of Alabama. Well known to be reputable and entitled to credit and who being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows: That they made the acquaintance of Lucinda Strickland and her late husband Thomas Strickland since 1854 and they know that they heard of Lucinda Strickland and her late husband having been married for years. ...They both state that she is a pauper in the County of Randolph State of Alabama and that she has no real estate nor any kind of ... not able to do any kind of laboring 77 year of age and has no income of any sort... Court of Record within and for said County and State aforesaid Lucinda Strickland aged 76 years a resident of the... of Wedowee County of Randolph State of Alabama who being duly sworn according to law declares that she is the widow of Thomas Strickland who enlisted under the name of Thomas Strickland at Rome GA on the 10th day of Aug A.D. 1864 in Company E, 1st Regiment of the Alabama Cav. Vols. Military service... and served at least ninety days in the late War of Rebellion who was HONORABLY DISCHARGED at Huntsville Alabama and died... Time and date unknown. That she was married under the name Lucinda Peeler to said Thomas Strickland on the 25 day of October 1833 by E.Y. Vardimen at or near Greenville GA. there being no legal barrier to said marriage that neither herself nor her husband were ever previously married. That she has not remarried since the death of said Thomas Strickland. That she is without other means of support than her daily labor. That means and dates of birth of all the children now living under sixteen years of age of the soldier are as follows: That she has heretofore applied for pension under this other law. That she makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the United States under the provisions of the Act Jun 27, 1890. On this 24th day of December A.D. 1894 personally appeared before me the Judge of Probate of Randolph County in and for the afore said County duly authorized to administer oaths S.E.A Reaves aged 59 years a resident of near Wedowee in the County of Randolph and State of Alabama whose Post-Office address is Wedowee Alabama...aged.... years, a resident of.... in the county of.... and state...whose Post Office address is.... Well known to be reputable and entitled to credit and who being duly sworn declared in relation to aforesaid cases as follows: That he is and has been for forty years last passed well acquitted with Lucinda Strickland the above named applicant and known that she is in destitute circumstances and is a pauper and liken care of by the County in which she lives which is the County of Randolph. Affiant for her states that this was written by himself not being allied by any other persons as to the facts of the case. He further declares that he has no interest in said case and not concerned in its prosecution. S.E.A. Reaves General Affidavit State of Alabama County of Randolph In the matter of widow pension claim Lucinda Strickland widow of Thomas Strickland late of Co E, 1st Ala Cav Vol Nov 1861. Personally came before me Judge of Probate in and for aforesaid County and State. W.W. Dobson aged 47 years and Judge M. Whaley aged 46 years citizen of the town of Wedowee County of Randolph and State of Alabama. Well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit and who being duly sworn declare in relation to aforesaid cases as follows: That they be the know Lucinda Strickland the claimant and her late husband Thomas Strickland for forty years last passed. The claimant and Thomas Strickland from about 1856 to the time he left this county probably about the latter part of December 1866 and that affidavit states from all the surrounding facts they believe the said Thomas Strickland claimants late husband to be dead that claimant has been called the widow Strickland for the last twenty five years, and we believe she is a widow, and why we do believe it is. We think that Thomas Strickland if living would be at home, that he would have been with his family. affiant states that this affidavit was written in these processes are as from these oral statements made to D.A Perryman wrote the same at witnesses said as the 30th day of March 1895 and that is they further declare that they have no interest in said case and is not concerned in its prosecution. Whaley General Affidavit State of Alabama County of Randolph In the matter of pension claim 458007 widow Lucinda Strickland 1893 personally appeared before me the Justice of the Peace of aforesaid County and State Lucinda Strickland aged 77 years a citizen of Talbot in the County of Randolph and State of Alabama. Well known to be reputable and entitled to credit and who being duly sworn declared in relation to aforesaid cases as follows: That she is the Lucinda Strickland as the widow of Thomas Strickland late of Co E, 1st Ala Cav was made the above claim she states that if her late husband Thomas Strickland ever again joined the Untied States Army after he was discharged in Oct-1865. That her husband said husband left the county in the last days of 1866 about the 31st day of December 1866 and that up to that time he had not made any application for pension except the above noted. On this 13th day of March A.D. 1895 personally appeared before me the Judge of Probate of Randolph County in and for the afore said County duly authorized to administer oaths Henry F. Mitchell aged 68 years a resident of near Wedowee in the County of Randolph and State of Alabama whose Post-Office address is Wedowee Alabama and James C. Mitchell aged 65 years a resident of near Wedowee in the county of Randolph and state Alabama whose Post Office address is Wedowee Randolph County Alabama. Well known to be reputable and entitled to credit and who being duly sworn declared in relation to aforesaid cases as follows: That they now reside in the neighbor house with Lucinda Strickland the claimant and know her and her late husband Thomas Strickland from the year 1853, and in the fall time of 1866 afficant states that Thomas Strickland was a man who loved his children, but his wife Lucinda Strickland the claimant has fits or spells and was at the this time very disagreeable. Henry F. Mitchell one of the afficants states that he was a corporal for Co E, 1st Regiment of Ala Cav. Vol. and Thomas Strickland claimants husband was a private of said – and in Co E. Afficant states that he at many times heard Thomas Strickland when they were in the army speak of his family and how he wanted to be with them. Afficant states that after Thomas Strickland was discharged he came home to his family... until the fall of 1866 when went with his wagon and team to make some money. Afficant states that they have reasons to believe and does believe that Thomas Strickland is dead or he would came back to his family. They know he loved his children.... Henry F. Mitchell James C. Mitchell General Affidavit State of Alabama County of Randolph In the matter of claim 458007 Lucinda Strickland widow of Thomas Strickland Co E, 1st Ala Cav. On this 15th day of Apr A.D. 1895 personally appeared before me the Judge of Probate of Randolph County in and for the aforesaid County duly authorized to administer oaths Lucinda Strickland aged 78 years a resident of near Wedowee in the County of Randolph and State of Alabama whose Post-Office address is Wedowee Alabama...aged.... years, a resident of.... in the county of.... and state...whose Post Office address is.... Well known to be reputable and entitled to credit and who being duly sworn declared in relation to aforesaid cases as follows: That she is the widow of Thomas Strickland late of Co E, 1st Ala Cav. That she filed the above claim that she has reasons to believe that her husband Thomas Strickland is dead is one of the following facts there is one woman who lives in this County who in 1867 lived near Rome GA, and has told claimant that she knows that claimant husband Thomas Strickland was killed by the some men and this woman in by the name of Jane Hull and refused to testify.... This affidavit was written in his presences from her oral statement made to D.A. Perryman who wrote the same at Wedowee Alabama on the 15th of Apr 1895. Lucinda Strickland Her X Mark Stell Blake L.W. Wissinger General Affidavit State of Alabama County of Randolph In the matter of pension claim of Lucinda Strickland widow of Thomas Strickland personally came be me a Judge of Probate in and for aforesaid County and State G.W. Cox of 50 years... citizen of the town of Roanoke in the County of Randolph and the State of Alabama. Well known to me to be a reputable and entitled to credit and who being duly sworn declares in relation to aforesaid case as follows: That in 1867 the afficant and one Thomas Strickland were working together near Rome GA and the said Thomas Strickland told afficant that he Thomas Strickland had a wife and children near Wedowee Ala. Afficant says that in October 1867 Thomas Strickland disappeared once he heard a man by the name Gus Johnson had killed Thomas Strickland. Afficant said that himself and Thomas Strickland were working together in Floyd County GA. Afficant states that he has no doubt but Gus Johnson done what he said killed Thomas Strickland. Affiant states that this affidavit was written in his presences on the 29th day of April 1895 from his oral statement made to D.A. Perryman at Rockdale Alabama in making sworn oral statement... G.W. On this 30th day of March A.D. 1896 personally appeared before me the Judge of Probate of Randolph County in and for the afore said County duly authorized to administer oaths Lucinda Strickland aged 79 years a resident of near Wedowee in the County of Randolph and State of Alabama whose Post-Office address is near Wedowee Alabama, Post Office address is: Wedowee Alabama. Well known to be reputable and entitled to credit and who being duly sworn declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows: That she is the Lucinda Strickland who filed the above claim, she states that she has made devise enquires as to her said late husband Thomas Strickland that who left home about the last of December 1866 to go to the city of Atlanta GA, took his wagon and team to haul to make some money.... and that she has had many letters written making in enquires but she never heard from her husband Thomas Strickland since the fall time of 1867 and that she believes that he was killed near Rome GA in October 1867 she states that this affidavit was written in his presences on the from her oral statement made to D.A. Clifton General Affidavit State of Alabama County of Randolph In the matter of claim 458007 Lucinda Strickland widow of Thomas Strickland Co E, 1st Ala Cav. On this 30th day of March A.D. 1896 personally appeared before me the Judge of Probate of Randolph County in and for the aforesaid County duly authorized to administer oaths William R. Cox aged 69 years a resident of near Wedowee in the County of Randolph and State of Alabama whose Post-Office address is Potash Alabama, Post Office address is: Potash Alabama well known to be reputable and entitled to credit and who being duly sworn declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows: That in the year of 1867 he resided near Rome GA and was acquainted with one Thomas Strickland who said he had a family in Randolph County Ala and his wife’s name was Lucinda and that he had a son by the name Elijah and that he intended to return to his family soon. There was in the latter part of this year 1867. afficant states that he was told by one Gus Johnson the he Gus Johnson was going to kill the said Thomas Strickland and in a few days the said Gus Johnson told afficant that he had killed him. Afficant states that it was generally accepted that Strickland was killed by Johnson. Afficant further states that he never saw Thomas Strickland anymore after Gus Johnson told him that he had killed him. Afficant believes this statement Gus Johnson one time. Affiant states that this affidavit was written in his presences from his oral statement made to D.A. Perryman at Wedowee Alabama. William R.
