Ball enlisted 01 May, 1838 as a Private in Wadkins Co. A of the Georgia Volunteers, (Cherokee War) in Campbellton, Ga. He went to other town of Newachota and scouted near there. He was honorably discharged at Newchota, Georgia on 1st of August 1838. Nancy Ball had been married previously to Abner Ball and that her first husband died in the Confederate Army to which his comrades witnessed. Nancy and John Dison Ball were married on 24th August 1866 near Milner in Randolph County, Alabama by Jesse Coats, MG. Nancy received a pension of $8.00 per month on 27th day of July 1892. Nancy died from a tumor of the liver on 21 January 1919 in the city or town of Padgett in Young County, Texas. Her attending physcian was Dr. L. F. Gragg of Olney, Texas. J.L. Young, her son-in-law, filed an application for Reimbursement for expenses that occurred during her last illness. Physician's call: $17.00, medicine: $1.00. Jno. E. Morrison, Undertaker, expenses for gloves were (.25 cents) and coffin ($45.00) which came to $42.25. The grand total for expenses amounted to $63.25. Additional Comments: Nancy Brown married 1st. Abner Ball and then, after his death she married John Dison Ball. (Nancy Brown & John Dison Ball were my grt. grt. grandparents) and I knew of Nancy Brown's two marriages because it was past down orally through our family. My grandmother, Beulah D.
