We found this one in the hands of Mrs. G. W. Parker of Wedowee. Mrs. Parker said this belonged to her father. W. W. Bolt who was born and reared in Randolph County. It was published March 19, 1887, at Mobile. The name of the paper is The Mobile Item. The entire front page is taken up in advertising. It is an eight-page edition: printed six columns where the daily papers of today have eight columns and are printed on modern-cylinder presses. We will repeat one of the ads that attracted our attention in order to let. you compare it with modern transportation: "Fine horses and carriages to match. Fine buggies phaetons, surreys and drays with fast stylist and gentle horses." Mrs. Parker said her grandfather was an officer in the War of 1812 and pioneer citizen of Randolph County. Mrs. Parker showed me a quilt top that was pieced by her grandmother. Tho pieces are cut hexagon shape, and although it is 85 years old, it looks as fresh and new as tomorrow. Mrs. Parker also and old chest made by her grandfather before the War Between the States.
