M. Handley lightning struck a tree standing near the well, severing it into pieces. The lightning also struck Mr. Bachus on the back of his head and passed down around his head and on the side of his neck and thence down in front of bis neck and chest and divided just about the middle of his stomach and passed down each of his legs to his feet. Where the lightning struck his head the hair was singed in crisps. The lightning tore a considerable hole in his hat, that you could put your fingers through, and on his left foot the shoe was considerably torn. Several others were considerably shocked by the lightning. When assistance reached Mr. Bachus, he looked as though he were dead. His face and eyes were covered with pieces of leaves and other trash and dirt that was thrown over him by the lightning. His breathing was imperceptible for 9 considerable time. You can trace the course of the lightning where-ever it passed it singed the hair, showing plainly its road. Mr. Bachus, we are glad to say, has recovered enough to be out his was a narrow escape.
