KAYLOR came to town, and accompanied by Commissioner H. M. MICKLE, inspected the crossing of the Roanoke and Wedowee road over Jones Creek, a few miles north of town, and let the contract to Mr. L. F. BIRDSONG for the building of a bridge at the above mentioned point. The bridge will be a wooden structure, 170 [feet] long, and 11 feet wide. It seems unfortunate that a bridge this long, on a road so much traveled, will be only of single track width. However, it will prove a great convenience in times of freshets, when the ford is impassable. The bridge will span the creek just a little below the ford. The road will then take a more direct course toward town, cutting out the elbow at the BIRDSONG house. Mr. BIRDSONG gives the right of way in order to get the road further away from his front gate. We understand that work will begin on the bridge about the first of October, and that it will be rushed to completion.
