Roanoke Leader: Sheriff Ralph Gunn reported Wednesday morning that the decomposed body found in Hurricane Creek in the Malone section of this county had been identified, but that the cause of death had been determined. State Toxicologist Sowell was due in the county Wednesday afternoon to seek to discover the cause of death. The body was identified as that of Beothis McLain, 28-year-old Negro male, who was last seen about Easter of this year. The young man's mother made the identification by telephone from Detroit Monday night, from a description of the clothing found on the body. He was known to be a mental case. Originally from Wadley Rt. 2, McLain was down from Detroit with his parents for an Easter visit when he disappeared. His body was to be turned over to Vines Funeral Home of LaFayette this Wednesday. During the period of investigation it was stored in the same freezer used recently in Gadsden to store the famed X and Y torsos of the butchered Harper brothers. Two fishermen found the body about midnight Saturday in Hurricane Creek in the Malone section of Randolph County. Sheriff Gunn said that it was clad in two sport shirts and blue jeans but no shoes. There was no identification in the clothing. An Army helicopter Sunday afternoon flew the sheriff to the creek and brought the body out because it could not be carried overland through the dense woods. Sheriff Gunn wants to make special mention of the fine volunteer help his force received, and to thank all who gave it.
