The young people were married without the consent of their parents. After a brief and presumably happy married life one result of which was the birth of a beautiful little daughter, the young parents became involved in the quarrel which had existed between their respective families. The wife let her husband taking with her the little daughter and went to her father's home. A few nights later the husband stole the child from the sleeping mother's side and the greatest excitement followed the discovery. A habeas corpus was sued out by the mother. People from all parts of the county flocked to the Courthouse while the trial was in progress the wife's people stole the child from the sheriff's house and endeavored to make their escape but were overtaken by the sheriff. The trial was a long one and the innocent cause of it was placed by the sheriff in the hands of a private citizen for safe keeping it was supposed however that the little one had been placed in the hands of Deputy sheriff Thomas last night, the friends of the wife entered Thomas house and with drawn weapons put to fight Mr. Thomas, his wife and family and three old ladies of the opposition. This quiet little town never before saw any excitement which could compare with that which ensued. This morning the Judge of Probate awarded the custody of the child to the wife and the other side created such a row that the Sheriff was called upon to quell the disturbance. All is quiet tonight, but Mr. Simmons swears he will get his child yet.
