CHEWNING has issued a proclamation regarding the clean-up campaign inaugurated by the Civic Clubs of the state, which is as follows: To the People of Roanoke, Alabama: In conformity with the proclamation of the Governor of Alabama, under the general direction of the Alabama Federation of Women’s Clubs, I hereby designate and appoint as “Clean-up Week” for the City of Roanoke the week beginning April 5th, 1915. I earnestly urge all citizens and property owners of Roanoke to cooperate with us at that time in putting our town in the most sightly and sanitary condition it has ever known. The trash wagon will go on every street, under the direction of Mr. ROGERS, from day to day and haul off all garbage that can be found. Citizens will kindly place such rubbish in a box, can or barrel on the edge of the street, where it can be found and secured without delay. This should appeal to every man, woman and child who is interested in the beauty and healthfulness of our town. Very truly, W. Y. CHEWNING, Mayor.
