Dan and his wife went to the fodder field late Saturday evening to take up fodder, leaving his old sister in the house, and the supposition is that she crawled to the fireplace and got fire to light her pipe and then crawled back to her bed or pallet and set it on fire with her pipe. Dan's house and consents, including his invalid sister were burned up, leaving Dan and his wife without anything except the meagre clothing they had on at the time.
