Sept. 22, 1857. Brethren Editors I drop you a line giving a very brief account of another revival meeting just closed in the woods about eight miles north of this, on Dine Creek. Brother J. C. Morris, at the close of his regular meeting at Pinetucky Church, on the 2nd Sabbath, said if the people would meet him in the woods some four miles distant from that place on that evening, he would preach, and if they desired it, he would remain with them until Thursday, at which time brother Burson, the missionary preacher would meet with him, &c. The people assembled, and numbered, before it concluded, on last Sabbath, the 20th, daily from (500) to (1,000) five hundred to one thousand souls, it is supposed. He was favored with the assistance of brethren Burson, Thackerson, Beverly, Sears and Wilson. He baptized twenty-two amongst that number was one who was sorely afflicted with the rheumatic pain, and another a blind man, both of whom had to be assisted down into the water. This was certainly one of the most awfully solemn sences my eyes ever witnessed. It would be utterly impossible for me to find language of sufficient power to express the solemn, the delightful and joyful sensations which pervaded the souls of the vast multitude who stood upon the bank, upon the water witnessing it. Brother Thackerson delivered the farewell sermon, and that excellent man of God, brother J.C. Beverly, closed by exhortation his words were like a two-edged sword, which penetrated every heart. Truly "the Lord hath done great things for us, whereof we are glad. Many, although worn down by continued exercise for eight days and nights, resolved not to intermit their pious devotion. It was agreed upon to meet at a neighboring house at night. Many sinners continue to be awakened and converted, and may the work of grace be deepened, in the hearts of believers, add the word of our divine Master continue to move with rapidity and be glorified in this destitute portion of our county.
